Travis Derrel Burks, 65, of Columbia, formerly of St. Charles, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026. He was born in Florence, Alabama, October 30, 1960, to Charles Derl and Patricia (Frederick) Burks.
Derrel grew up in St. Charles and graduated from Orchard Farm High School. After graduating he worked as a welder and then opened his own business. He operated St. Charles Off Road building and racing off road race cars before moving to Columbia to be close to family. After moving to Columbia Derrel owned and operated a fire and water restoration company exhibiting a strong work ethic. Whenever possible he spent time at the Lake of the Ozarks enjoying boating and hanging out with friends. Derrel never met a stranger and will be remembered for his ability to have conversations on many topics.
Derrel leaves two children, Hunter Travis Burks of Kansas City and Hayden Elizabeth Burks of Columbia and their mother Lori Boggs Burks of St. James. He is survived by his brother Charles “Fred” (Stephanie) Burks, sister Cindy L. Burks, nephews Andy (Nicole) Burks and Brian (Hillary) Burks all of Columbia. He is also survived by a great-nephew and nieces, aunts, uncles and several cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, cousins and an aunt and uncle.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, 1610 N. Garth Ave, Columbia.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Children’s hospital of St. Louis.
