Thomas Alsop, II Obituary

Thomas Jackson Alsop, II., of Independence, MO and formerly of New Franklin, passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital on November 15, 2024.  He was 75 years old,

Tommy Jack, as he was known by, was born in Boonville, MO on November 2, 1949, a son of Thomas Jackson Alsop and Wanda Genevieve Richardson Alsop.  Thomas grew up above the family business in downtown New Franklin and graduated from New Franklin High School.  He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a degree in Business Administration. He was a US Army veteran serving in Alaska in a medical service unit.

Professionally, Thomas was employed with the City of Independence in the finance department and was self-employed in business and personal finance and had recently been assisting with individual health insurance plans.

Tommy Jack marched to his own drummer and liked life prior to the internet when things were made to last.  His family remembers him as being resistant to change and frugal.  His moniker in life was always “don’t worry.”  He was very dedicated to his mother during her final years, and came home from Kansas City every weekend, taking her from her care center back to her home to visit.  He wasn’t much on showing his kindness through his words but through his actions and deeds.  He also liked to research vintage automobiles from the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Thomas was lovingly called “Bubby” by his siblings growing up and is survived by his sister, Holly Luetjen and her husband, Larry of Fulton, nieces, Shannon, Amy, Mindy and Morgan and nephews, Justin and Tyler.  Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Melissa Ann Alsop Megas.
