Shirley always had a wise crack or joke; everyone loved her quick wit. Shirley was a warrior in her own right. She was diagnosed with polio at 5 and spent some of her younger life in a polio ward. The doctors even told her she would never have kids. She loved proving people wrong. She was brave and traveled across country on her own to go to California to marry John. She would spend the next 62 year with him. Shirley was giving and volunteered her time working with the Cahokia Lions Club where she helped raise money, worked bingo as well as played bingo. She loved not only her kids but all children and would often buy Christmas for children at her grandkids daycare or bought for a child who she saw needed this or that. She had the house you could go to just to hang out whether it was the many family events, neighborhood kids and she always had a plate of something for you. She was the brains behind John’s brawn when it came to building and managing his companies House of Iron in Cahokia, Il, Golden Key Builders in Alameda Ca. She was a great artist and would sing and dance with the kids in the front room while cleaning the house.

Shirley is adored by all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, brothers, sisters and friends. She will be greatly missed.
