Saundra Chouteau Obituary

The family is sadden to announce the passing of their matriarch, Saundra Kay Chouteau. She transitioned peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on December 22, 2024.

Saundra was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, on August 27, 1945, to the late James and Romaine (Rowlette) Chouteau. She attended Leavenworth High School and started her career at Wadsworth, the Veterans’ Administration Hospital (VA). Saundra relocated to Columbia, Missouri and remai employed at the VA for 35 years until she retired. Over the years she held several positions, but found her calling in her favorite and final position as an Autopsy Assistant. Saundra was a faithful member of the Christ Apostolic Church where she was baptized.   

Saundra is survived by her children, Minjon Suzette Jones (Richard), Aundra Kay Berry, Raymond Jason Hand, and Jaymond Ray Shabaka, the grandson she raised.  She was proceeded in death by five siblings and survived by six: Sylvia, Docmer Vanburen (Van), Veolette Wilson, Carol Sue Williams, Freddie Allen Wilson (Felicia), and Tania Wilson; sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.   

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at 1601 Hanover Blvd, Columbia, MO 65202, The Community Building.
