Robert "Bob" Calvin

Robert “Bob” Calvin, age 91, passed away at The Lodge in Fayette, MO on May 1, 2025.   He was a former resident of Columbia and Lee’s Summit.

Robert Russell Calvin was born in Rocheport, MO July 20, 1933, a son of Homer Clifford and Viola Brown Calvin growing up on a farm in Boone County.  He married Doris Fern Martin on October 3, 1952.  She preceded him in death on December 11, 2022, after 70 years of loving marriage.

Bob was a 1951 graduate of Hickman High School.  He was employed by Sears as a manager at various stores in Columbia and Kansas City.  He and Doris lived life to the fullest.  His favorite activities included cheering on the Kansas City Royals, the Chiefs and the Missouri Tigers, playing cards (especially bridge) and in his younger years he enjoyed camping, bird hunting, bowling and playing slow pitch softball.  His love of the Wehmeyer family apple butter was the reason Rocheport UMC began a decades long tradition of making their own apple butter as a fundraiser for the church.  He was a former member of the COSMO Optimist Club in Columbia. Bob and Doris enjoyed traveling but also greatly enjoyed bird watching at their home on the lake.  They were long time members of the Rocheport United Methodist church and transferred to Grace United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit, MO after they moved.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his children, Blake Calvin, Phyllis Thomas and husband, Jim and Karen Ridgwell and husband, Darrell; brother, Jerry Calvin; sister, Donna Calvin; sister-in-law, Rachael Martin; grandchildren, Nicole Volden and wife, Sarah and Sarah Brugmann and husband, Danny and his great-grandchildren, Theo and Jack Brugmann and Annika Volden.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Mac Calvin and a sister, Helen Beatty.

A memorial service honoring Bob’s life will be held at the Rocheport United Methodist Church Thursday, May 8, at 11:00am.

Burial will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia.
