Richard Shackelford Obituary

Richard E. (Uncle Dickie) Shackelford, 83, of Kansas City Missouri passed peacefully on Saturday October 15, 2023.

Richard was born on October 31, 1939, in Hannibal, Missouri to Richard Valentine and Josephine Mae Dunbar Shackelford. Richard married the love of his life, Marguerite, and although they had no children, they were a vital part of the lives of their many nieces and nephews. Marguerite preceded him in death on August 11, 2021.

Richard worked for many years in the grocery store industry, primarily in the produce department. He always enjoyed the outdoors and looked forward to just about any hunting season, especially morel mushrooms. His family was always joking that he seemed to have a nose for finding them! Having all nieces surrounding him for so many years, he welcomed the next generation of great nephews and introduced many of them to hunting and fishing. He was also a naturally gifted artist, and some of his portraits and drawings have and will continue to be treasured mementos.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Carolyn Grace (Shackelford) Maddox and Sandra Varnum. He is survived by his sister Garland (Shackelford) Carter and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many, especially his best friend and fur baby Buddy, who will remain in the care of loving family.

There are no services planned at this point, but the family will update with information on a celebration of life at a later date.
