Marjorie Jane (O’Dell) Cooper

1928 – 2022

Marjorie Jane (O’Dell) Cooper, 93, of New Franklin passed away March 24, 2022 at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville.

Marjorie was born in Montreal, Missouri on April 24, 1928 a daughter of Levi Everett O’Dell and Rosa Anna (Annie) Rickerson O’Dell.  She married William Lee Cooper on May 19, 1947.  He preceded her in death on June 9, 1997.

The family moved to Howard County near New Franklin in 1931.  Marjorie attended grade school in Petersburg at Cooper’s Chapel School and graduated from New Franklin High School in 1947.  After her marriage, the Cooper’s moved to Kansas City where Marjorie was employed with Bayer for many years.  She retired after 32 years of employment with the company.  While living in Kansas City, Marjorie was baptized at West Side Christian Church in 1957.  They moved back to Howard County in 1985 where Marjorie lived until her death.

Marjorie loved to embroider and make beautiful quilts.  She was especially proud of winning three white, three red, two blue and two purple ribbons over the years for her handiwork at the Missouri State Fair. She enjoyed doing family genealogy and had compiled a large scrapbook of Howard County’s news and changes over the years.  Marjorie also loved working in her yard and taking long walks in the neighborhood.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Sue Cooper of Parkville, Missouri; a sister, Anna LaVerne Jeffress of Boonville; a sister-in-law, Gilda (Cooper) Powers of Branson, Missouri; three grandchildren, Brian Gramlich and wife, Jaime of Udall, Kansas, Shellie (Gramlich) Nunnelley and husband, Scott of Independence, Missouri and Stacy (Hampton) Hontz and husband, Brian of Blue Springs, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Imani, ‘Aiane, Femi and Vensi Gramlich of Udall, Kansas, Samantha Ulleberg and husband, Mark, of Independence, Cooper and Khari Hontz of Blue Springs and three great-great grandchildren, Jazspher, Austin and Riverly Ulleberg.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores Ann (Cooper) Hampton; seven brothers, James Levi O’Dell, Charles Ernest O’Dell, Lynn O’Dell, Lloyd Eugene O’Dell, Ralph O’Dell, Levi Everett O’Dell Jr. and Carl Keith O’Dell; five sisters, Ruth (O’Dell) Frey, Mary Elizabeth (O’Dell) James, Hazel Irene (O’Dell) Topping, Helen Louise (O’Dell) Eaton and Ruby Eva (O’Dell) Bardwell.

Funeral services honoring Marjorie’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin with Rev. Roger McMurry officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Lisbon, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, Marjorie requested memorial contributions be made to Rose Hill Cemetery Association.  Memorial contributions may be sent to Markland-Yager Funeral Home, P.O. Box 126, New Franklin, Missouri 65274.
