Larry Duncan Obituary

Larry Roland Duncan, age 64, of Franklin, MO, passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on January 15, 2025.

Larry was born in Fayette, MO on July 31, 1960, a son of the late Lloyd Kenneth and Betty Jean Bledsoe Duncan.  He married his wife, Angelyn “Angel” on July 24, 2023.  She survives at their home.

He was a IUOE Local #513 St. Louis heavy equipment operator for 40 years.  Larry served the Booneslick area as a firefighter for many years.  He started serving with the Cooper County Fire Protection District from 1984 – 2003, the Boone County Fire Protection District from 1990 – 1992 and the Howard County Fire Protection District Station #4 from 2021 until his death.  Larry served with the Missouri Task Force One from 1998 – 2003 as a Heavy Equipment Rigging Specialist.  As a member of Missouri Task Force One he was deployed to serve after the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.  His service there eventually resulted in his final illness and death.

Larry also served his community as Shriner and member of the Bunceton Masonic Lodge.  He loved the outdoors, especially going hunting, camping, fishing and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Larry also enjoyed following racing and dirt bikes and motorcycles and had an eclectic taste in music.  He was outspoken, a good friend and colleague and had a gregarious personality, not knowing a stranger and was expert at telling tall tales.

Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Angel Duncan of Franklin; his daughter, Joella Duncan (Whitney Segars) of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Lonnie Duncan (Heather) of Glasgow; his mother-in-law, Donna Henderson of Jefferson City; nieces and nephews and many friends, especially his firefighting colleagues.  Also missing Larry is his furry best friend and right-hand dog, Elvis.

Funeral services honoring Larry’s life of service will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the New Franklin High School gymnasium.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Sunday morning until the time of his service.

Burial will follow at Old Lamine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Supporting Heroes or Howard County Fire Protection District Station #4.
