Kenneth “Ken” Scott Moit, 75, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Ken was born on November 25, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Andrew Jackson Moit and Dorothy Jean Mallory Moit. Kenneth and Margaret met in St. Louis in July of 1996 and the wonderful adventure began, and what an adventure it was!
Ken served his country proudly in the United States Army during Vietnam, serving from 1965 to 1968. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Ken spent 27 years as a police officer working for St. Louis City Police, St. Peters Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department in Missouri. He also served with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department in Marshall, Texas as well as serving as Police Chief of Ore City Police Department in Ore City, Texas. Ken was a selfless man who always put others before himself and because of this, he had a full life and lived it to the fullest. He loved his family and cherished every moment that he was able to spend with them, but especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren the most. Ken loved motorcycles and when he was not working, he never missed an opportunity to go out for a ride. He had a passion for fishing, especially trout fishing, something he and his son enjoyed doing together. After retirement Ken and his wife Margaret loved to travel and from 2014-2017, they traveled the United States staying at different military bases while exploring the country. During their travels, they were lucky enough to meet the United States Air Force Thunderbirds; and always had fighter jets flying over, be their alarm clock in the morning, no matter which base they stayed on.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his wife, Betty Margaret Barton Moit of Columbia; one son, Jason Scott Moit and wife Jodi of Columbia; two grandchildren, Jackson Henry Moit and Jenna Grace Moit, both of Columbia.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents.
