Kenneth Raines Obituary

Kenneth Lee Raines, 83, of Franklin, passed away October 25, 2021 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

Kenneth was born in New Franklin on December 5, 1937 a son of William and Ella Mae Bishop Raines.  He married Patsy Darlene Ivy on September 6, 1958.  She preceded him in death on August 10, 2017.

Kenneth served his nation in the U.S. Army from September 1961 to September 1963 receiving the Good Conduct Medal and training as a Rifle Sharpshooter.  He was an automotive mechanic and was the former owner and operator of 40 & 5 Garage in the Franklin bottoms and has also been employed with Joe Machens Ford in Columbia, Berckles Automotive in Boonville and O’Bryan’s MFA in Fayette.  Kenneth enjoyed coon hunting and was a member of the AKC Coon Hunters Association in Harrisburg.  He also liked going to the casino, taking drives in the neighborhood and countryside and especially spending time with his family.

Survivors include two sons, Shannon Raines and Blake Raines both of Franklin; two daughters, Jennifer Wilhite and husband, Troy of Harrisburg and Tammy Garrett of Franklin; an “adopted daughter,” Lisa Clay and a brother, David Raines of Franklin.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Scotty Garrett, Samantha Goode, Alexis Raines, Shelby Simmons, Kaylee Wilhite and Briella Raines and great-grandchildren, Kolten Garrett, Nyomi Garrett and Avah Goode.

In addition to his parents and wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson Raines; three sisters, Cleva Snow, Emma Cleek and Betty Jo Davis and by a grandson, Tyler Simmons.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 30 at Boonesboro Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Purvis officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the family payable to Jennifer Wilhite.
