Joni Rae (Maddox) Gibson

Joni Rae Maddox (Gibson), 58, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away May 8, 2021 at St. Luke’s North Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Joni was born in Peoria, Illinois on August 20, 1962, a daughter of Jack Ward and Carolyn Grace Shackelford Maddox. She was the mother of four children.

Throughout the years, Ms. Maddox worked in her family’s dog grooming shops. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, spending time with family and friends, camping and the outdoors and many pets during her lifetime. As a child, Joni sustained multiple injuries, including the loss of a kidney, when she was struck by a car at the age of nine. She endured many years of dialysis and health issues the past few years, however, Joni showed great strength and determination in spite of her health issues.

She is lovingly remembered by her three children; Dacoda Maddox and his wife Tamara, Dustin Maddox and Danielle Maddox and five sisters; Teri Aalders, Sheri and David Skaggs, Conni and John Olvera, Margi and Kevin Scott and Jacki and Dan Edwards. Also cherishing her memory are many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joni was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Johnny.

A celebration of Joni’s life will be held in August to coincide with her birthdate. Details will be announced at a later date.
