Janice Fay Carpenter, 87, of Columbia Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Friday, February 21st, 2025.
Janice was born in Iowa City, Iowa on April 13, 1937, to the late Milton and Gwendolyn (Good) Loyd.
Janice moved to California where she worked for many car dealerships. When she and her daughter, Deborah moved back to Missouri in 1976, Janice worked for both Ford and Toyota dealerships. She then worked for the Columbia Public School district in the board office, from where she later retired. Post retirement she continued to work out of her home as a seamstress and at The Buckle in Columbia Mall.
Janice's joys were her granddaughters, whom she helped care for post retirement. She was one of the best seamstresses you'd have ever met. She loved teaching, sewing and quilting alongside her granddaughter, Erin, as well as many friends she met along the way. She also took great joy in praising her Lord and Savior with her Pastor and church family at Praise Assembly of God, where she was a charter member.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Tim) Pohlman, two granddaughters, Sarah and Erin Pohlman, and four great grand dogs, Marigold, Millie, Panzania and Steven.
She also leaves behind one brother, two half brothers, two half sisters and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by one brother and her parents.
Family will receive friends at Praise Assembly of God, 4300 Clark Ln, Columbia, MO 65202, on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and a memorial service will take place beginning at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Quilts of Valor Patriot Piecers, the American Cancer Society or the Columbia Audubon Society of Missouri.
