Jack E. Chipley, 88, of New Franklin, MO passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on August 14, 2024.
Jack was born in rural Howard County on September 10, 1935, a son of John Willard Chipley and Nora Ellen Jackson Chipley. He served his nation in the US Army beginning on September 24, 1957, until his discharge as PFC on September 17, 1959. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Fannie, who he married in Boonville, MO on November 24, 1961.
After graduating from Linn Tech Community College, he worked for Zenith TV in Springfield, MO. Then he decided to move his family back to Howard County. Proud resident of New Franklin, he volunteered his time as a police officer, participated in Santa Fe Trail Days parade, and was a member of the former New Franklin First Christian Church. He retired from Boonville Correctional Center where he worked as a correctional officer for 15 years.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed biking, hunting and helping with his kids’ scouting activities. He instilled the love and respect of nature into his children. Jack was a lifelong learner. No matter the subject, he always wanted to know more. Even when his sight was deteriorating, he found ways to continue through new technology. You could often find him listening to his books on tape. If he wasn’t outside or reading, then he was probably watching professional sports or teasing his grandkids. Valentine’s Day was one of Jack’s favorite holidays when he always remembered to do something special for Fannie and the girls. Jack had a great sense of humor, something he shared with his son, Monti.
His memory will be cherished by his wife Fannie of their home; a son Monti Alan Chipley (Petra) of Bayreuth, Germany; daughters Trisha Grant (Gary) of New Franklin, Ronda Schilling (Bob) of Charleston, SC and Jaclyn Taylor (Shane) of Fairland, OK; grandchildren Tayler and Mason Schilling, BrieAna Pittman (Tim), Cameryn Edwards (Nathan), and Paetyn and Ashlyn Taylor and great granddaughter Eleanor Pittman.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents John and Nora Chipley; a brother Willard Chipley and a sister Shirley Seyller.
