Harold Hackman, 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. He was born on March 21, 1941, in Boonville, Missouri, the fourth of six sons born to Henry and Freida (Wilmsmeyer) Hackman.
Harold grew up on the family farm in New Franklin, Missouri, alongside his five brothers. He attended Farmers High School and graduated from New Franklin Public School in 1959. After continuing his education at the University of Missouri School of Agriculture, Harold began a 37-year career with Missouri Utilities in 1962, where he worked until his retirement. The company is now known as Ameren Missouri.
On September 3, 1960, Harold married Jolene (Swain) Hackman, who survives him. Together they shared more than 65 years of marriage and raised two children: son Rev. Todd Hackman of Belleville, Wisconsin, and daughter Tracy Bach and her husband, Chris, of Columbia, Missouri. He was a proud grandfather to four grandsons, Jacob and Matthew Hackman, and Payton and Riley Bach.
Harold was a devoted member of Columbia United Church of Christ and the Sunrise Optimist Club, generously giving countless volunteer hours and serving in nearly every leadership role over the years. He cherished time spent on the golf course with the $3 Golf Club and enthusiastically pursued his love of hunting. As a founding member of Missouri Pheasant Hunters, LLC, Harold traveled annually to South Dakota for more than 45 years—trips that brought him great joy, enduring friendships, and many treasured memories.
Harold will be remembered for his deep dedication to family, his generous spirit, and the pursuits he loved. His fun-loving nature, kindness, and appreciation for a good joke brought smiles to all who knew him.
He is also survived by his brother Ronnie Hackman and wife Sherry of New Franklin; sister-in-law Sharon Hackman of Macon, Missouri; brother- and sister-in-law Mike and Jeanie Swain of Sedalia, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Norman, Leon, Ardel, and Wayne Hackman; and sisters-in-law Kay Hackman and Sue Hackman.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Columbia United Church of Christ in Columbia, Missouri. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin, Missouri.
