George Chapman, 94, of Columbia died Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2025, at the College Park Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1100 College Park Drive, Columbia, MO, with Elder Lee Rochholz and Elder Hiram Rester officiating. The burial will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the church.
George was born January 15, 1930, in Gentry County, Missouri to the late Roy and Emily (Smith) Chapman. He married Lois C. Gibb on Dec. 10, 1948, in Centralia, and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2002. On June 22, 2003, he married Norma Jean (Davis) Curtis. He was a member of the College Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in Columbia, where he served as an Elder, Chairman of the Building Committee, and various other positions through the years.
George and his late wife, Lois, started Chapman Heating and Air Conditioning in 1958. They operated the business for 24 years. He loved his family, enjoyed traveling, and camping. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed telling stories and jokes. He was admired by everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean; two daughters, Jacque McGee (Mark) and Barbara Brodersen (Gary); son, Ron Chapman (Beth); step daughter, Kathy Beahm (Ed), seven grandchildren, Michael McGee (Natalie), John McGee (Jisha), Scott Brodersen (Silva), Kevin Brodersen (Amber), Heather Figueiredo (Phil), Heidi Crouch (Nathan) and Erica Chapman-Hall; two step-granddaughters, Rachelle Pereira (Antony) and Megan McKay (Sean); and twelve great-grandchildren, Devin, Ella, Olivia, Alexa, Blaine, Dylan, Ashton, Parker, Jackson, Addison, Josh, and Jaelyn; four great step-grandchildren, Sofia, Liesl, Dylan and Tyler; and two great-great grandchildren, Charlotte and Noah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by a son, Don Chapman and a great-grandson, Caleb Brodersen; siblings Worthy Danner (Dillard), Benson Chapman (Maxine) and Mary Tull (Leo).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the College Park SDA Church Building Fund.
