G.J. “Jerry” Comegys

1924 - 2019

Jerry Comegys, of Harrisburg, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 surrounded by his family. Jerry was born April 5, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Josiah and Rose Comegys.

Jerry was an active member of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.  He was a veteran who served in the Pacific during WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy.  Jerry spent his time raising, riding, and showing quarter horses throughout Iowa and Missouri with his family and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed telling tall tales to his grandchildren and watching them participate in various school sporting activities.

Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of seventy-one years, LaVerla, and two sons, David (Barbara) of Harrisburg, Mo., Daniel (Debra) of Boonville, Mo., and his daughter Rosalie (Kim) Searfoss of Bunceton, Missouri.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Comegys.  Survivors include eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 6, 2019 at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette.  The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. Friday until time for the service.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Harrisburg Cemetery with the services presided over by the Woodlandville United Methodist Church minister Reverend Karen Alden.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
