Frances Jean Joy, 84, of Columbia, passed on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the University Hospital and Clinics surrounded by family.
Frannie was born August 29, 1936 in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Elsie Case Neville, who preceded her in death. On November 28, 1969, she married James Joy, who preceded her in death last November after they had celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2019. Frannie served her country in the Army Air Corp as a nurse in Vietnam and retired from the Army Air Corp National Guard. She served for over 50 years as a nurse. Frannie loved breeding and raising Grand Champion St. Bernards.
Frannie is survived by her children, Tyler (Carrie) Joy of Fulton, Morgan (Shawn) Twenter of Columbia; two grandchildren, James and Hadley Twenter. Frannie shared with Jim the belief you had the right to choose your family and is survived by her chosen sister, Nora Frier of Columbia and many other adopted family members and friends. She is preceded in death by chosen sister, Jo Bryson of St. Joe.
She is also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Ross.
Private Graveside services will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Jacksonville with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p. m., Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Bach-Yager Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in honor of Frannie’s love of St. Bernards to the St. Bernard Club of America or the Mizzou Botanic Gardens, c/o Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, 1610 N. Garth Ave., Columbia, MO 65202.
