Forrest Wayne “Pops” Sampo, 77, of Franklin passed away where he wanted at his home on April 3, 2022.
 
He was born on May 10, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri a son of Forrest Ira and Goldie Lorene Ramsey Sampo.  In 1967 Pops married Jean Cloutier in Fall River, Massachusetts.  Jean survives at their home.
 
Mr. Sampo was a US Navy veteran where he served as a machinist.  He was a self-employed carpenter who loved fixing and tinkering with things and creating his own vehicles and machinery from various other vehicle parts and chassis.  Pops enjoyed hunting and fishing and made some of his own knives and guns.  His family remembers him as being generous to others with his talents and possessions.
 
Survivors include his wife, Jean M. Sampo; four sons, Forrest Ray Sampo (Stacy), Russell Lee Sampo, William Ira Sampo and Patrick Andrew Sampo (Tara); two daughters, Brenda Jean Stockwell and Jody Lynn Sampo (Chris Summers); twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Wayne Sampo; two brothers, Richard A. Sampo and Billy Joe Sampo and a son-in-law, Jack Stockwell.
 
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, April 15, 2022 at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin with Rev. Ken Stacey officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
