Dorothy "June" (Mead) Hoard

Dorothy June Hoard, age 91, passed away peacefully at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville, MO, on October 29, 2024. June was born April 19, 1933, in Howard County, MO, to the late Otis Gentry Mead, Sr. and Norma Marguerite (Grapes) Mead. On July 3, 1953, she married Elbert Robert Hoard, and the couple enjoyed over 68 years of marriage. Elbert preceded her in death on July 10, 2021. June was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Hoard, and two brothers, Otis Gentry Mead, Jr. and John Mead.

June is survived by her brother, C.G. Mead of Moberly, MO; four children, Larry Hoard (Joanne) of Jefferson City, MO, James Hoard (Debbie) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Karla Hoard Huebert (Gerald) of Bluffton, SC, and Michael Hoard of Phoenix, AZ; nieces and nephews, Wendy Mead Loerzel (Jeff), Robbie Mead (Cathy), Joseph Mikel, Lee Ann Hoard Nichols (Bruce), Lenore Hoard, Jennifer Hoard Searle (Jon), Jonathon Hoard (Melaine), Richard Smith (Julie); grandchildren, Father Dylan Schrader, Dakota Hoard (Linsey), Jessica Hoard Paxton (David), Isaac Hoard (Kylene), Tabitha Hoard Boyer (Scott), Daniel Hoard, Nicole Faubion Cottrell (Jeff), Brandon Faubion (Jaime) and Madison Huebert (Ryan); twenty-three great grandchildren, and many great nieces and nephews.

June spent her life caring for children; besides her own, she looked after nieces, nephews, grandchildren, neighbors, and the children in Fayette First Baptist Church.  She travelled extensively with her husband including an RV trip to Alaska on unmetalled roads that were not for the faint of heart. She spent a great deal of her spare time writing to loved ones, doing needlework, and researching family history.

A memorial service honoring June’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 15, 2024, at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Missouri following the service.
