Dorothy “Dottie” Mitchell
1933 – 2020
Dorothy Jean Mitchell, aka Dottie or Mom Dot, of Lewellen, Nebraska transitioned to heaven Monday, September 14, 2020. She was 87 years old.
Dottie was born March 30, 1933 in Danville, Virginia, the daughter of Allen Otis Kinney and Geneva I. Robinson, raised by Geneva and Elmo Owens. Dottie was married to David Gordon, had nine biological children but was loved as a mother by many more. In her desire to help others, she became a nurse aide. She loved her Irish heritage and instilled that love in her children. She was able to visit Ireland in 2013. Her favorite things besides family and friends were animals, especially cats, the St. Louis Zoo, butterflies and rainbows. Dottie was a loving and forgiving woman who never met a stranger.
Dottie is survived by her children Ginger, Jim, John, Allen, Keith and Patty; grandchildren Kelly, Chris, Ella, Shanna, Ireland, Megan, Cassie, Elizabeth and Keely; great-grandchildren Evan, Kevin, Damon and Addeline; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by three children David Lee Jr., Janice Sheets, Joseph Mark; and by grandchildren David K. and Jason Gordon.
A Celebration of Life honoring Dottie will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette, Missouri. Rev. Tim Miller will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be sent in her memory to the ASPCA or the St. Louis Zoo.
