Dewey Jones Obituary

Dewey Jones, 80, of Columbia, Missouri, received his Heavenly reward and passed peacefully on April 14, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Dewey was born in Belle Glade, Florida, on August 18, 1945, to the late Earlie and Estelle (Harper) Jones. On November 18, 1967, he married the love of his life, Sharon Peacher, in Columbia, Missouri.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. During his service, he completed three tours of duty in Guam and one tour in Okinawa. He was also stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he served as a transportation specialist and ultimately attained the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Strategic Air Command, America’s long-range nuclear bomber and missile force. Following his military service, Dewey worked for many years at Case Power and Equipment as a diesel mechanic and tractor-trailer driver.

Dewey was a follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, where he served faithfully for many years alongside his wife, Sharon.

Dewey enjoyed spending time outdoors and made many special memories at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, and boating. He also enjoyed spending hours sitting quietly birdwatching.

Dewey loved his family dearly and was always proud to share their accomplishments with others. Anyone who knew Dewey knew he was a man of integrity and someone who could always be counted on, no matter the hour. He was also known as a true “jokester.” Dewey loved to make people laugh, and those around him will always remember his quick wit and playful humor, as well as the orneriness he brought into every room. He especially loved sharing stories from his younger days in Florida, including his experiences of wrestling alligators—memories that reflected both his adventurous side and his larger-than-life personality.

Dewey is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Sharon; his daughter, Amy Boyer (Kevin); his son, Jeff Jones (Tracy); and his grandchildren, Avery Brown, Zoey Borgman (Trevor), Ethan Jones, Aiden Jones, Quinton Vaughan, and Damion Griffin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Bobby, Billy, Raymond, and Hughie, his twin brother.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on May 1, 2026, at Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, 2601 Blue Ridge Road, Columbia, Missouri, with visitation from 2:00–3:00 p.m. and the service beginning at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Columbia First Church of the Nazarene (ComoNaz), 2601 Blue Ridge Rd., Columbia, Missouri.
