David Weston Obituary

David Anthony Weston, 61, of rural New Franklin, MO went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.  He passed peacefully surrounded by his wife, daughters, and sons-in-law at University of Missouri ICU, Columbia, MO.

Dave, as he was known to family and friends, was born June 17, 1959 to Ernest and Vivian (Landon) Weston at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Boonville, MO.  He has 3 brothers – Paul, Mark, and Jim – and 2 sisters – Marilyn and Vivian.  He married Kimberly Ann Bilbruck on August 25, 1979 in Calhoun, MO.  They were blessed with 3 daughters – Amy Nicole, Molly Dawn, and Emily Grace.

Dave attended First Baptist Church in New Franklin, MO where he served as Song Leader and Deacon.  He also served the Lord as the Mt. Zion Assembly Chairman in charge of the campgrounds near Higbee, MO.  He enjoyed being a cabin leader and worship leader during camp.

Dave grew up in rural Howard County and learned to play the banjo at a young age.  Bluegrass music became a lifelong obsession. During his college years at Central Missouri State University (now UMC), he played in two bands – Liberty Arsenal and Nickel Dance.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Safety and a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement.  Following college, he moved with his wife, Kim, to Enid, Oklahoma where he was employed by Farmland Industries.  After several years there, he moved back home to work with his brother, Jim, in Weston Well Drilling and Pump Company.  Following his time with Weston Well Drilling and Pump Company, he was hired by the University of Missouri Hospital. He was employed there for 29 years and retiring June of 2021. During this time, he rekindled his love of bluegrass music playing with his longtime friend, Gilbert Humphrey.  They formed a bluegrass gospel group – The Messengers and were subsequently joined by their daughters – Emily (Weston) Snapp and Jewelya (Humphrey) Pohle.  Dave wrote many of the songs they performed.  They recorded a cassette “First Fruits” and a CD “I Want to Give Thanks”  and performed at religious services around the area, most notably yearly at the Steam Engine Show.  They also performed at the Gospel Music Show at the Ernest Tubb Troubadour Theater in Nashville, Tennessee one year.

Dave loved sports and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs.  He also followed high school baseball and basketball, particularly when family members were playing.

Dave is survived by his wife, Kim, of the home; daughter Amy Nicole Weston of the home; daughter Molly Dawn (Aaron) Baker of Boonville, MO; daughter Emily Grace (Josh) Snapp of New Franklin, MO; grandchildren Declan Weston, Delaney Snapp, Dakota Snapp, Madison Baker, Rudi Snapp, and Zane Baker; his mother Vivian “Be” Weston, siblings Marilyn (Glenn) Porter, Paul (Brenda) Weston, Mark (Cheryl)Weston, Jim (Jenny) Weston, and Vivian (Keith) Zey.
