David Holmes, 63, of Columbia peacefully passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020, after his long battle with cancer, surrounded by family at home.
Celebration of Life Services are being planned after the COVID-19 health crisis passes.
David was born on July 5, 1956 in Columbia, the son of Frederick and Hazel Price Holmes. On September 9, 2016, he married Mary McDaniel in Columbia. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1974 and worked 37 years at the University of Missouri – Columbia as a Distribution Coordinator. After David retired he enjoyed collecting antiques and Mexican pottery. He enjoyed going to auctions throughout his life, listening to music on the deck with 'the girls' (cats) nearby, named Pansy and Lolli and enjoying Mexican food and margaritas on the weekend. He was always eager to help his children out, he enjoyed taking care of Shannon’s car more than she did. He was a Mizzou dad!
David is survived by his wife, Mary; his two children, Shane and Shannon Holmes, both of Columbia and his sister, Patty Irwin (Bill) of Columbia. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Marta Weiss, the mother of his children, and by his most dear friends: Ron Logan, Reggie Bentley, and Dave Hammond.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Fred and Steve.
