Pat Shay, 91, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Bluffs.
Pat was born to Charlie White and Edith Swearengen Shay on March 14, 1926, in Ely, Missouri. On November 29, 1952, he married Lora Russell in Quincy, Illinois and she survives.
Pat worked for Bell Telephone for many years and owned and operated Pat’s Workshop. He was a WWII U. S. Marine and Army Veteran serving in Guam, Iwo Jima, France and Germany. Pat was honored to be on the first Missouri Honor Flight.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Trenton, American Legion, Elks Lodge and Telephone Pioneers. He also participated in Habitat for Humanity, VA Hospital Volunteer, American Red Cross Volunteer, Marine Parents Volunteer and missionary work in Baja, Mexico. Pat enjoyed wood working, refinishing furniture, restoring cars, carpentry, exploring caves and outdoor activities.
Other survivors are his two children, Dennis Patrick Shay of Louisville, Kentucky and Linda Shay Lynch of Superior, Nebraska; a sister, Nelliemay Shay of Quincy, Illinois; four grandchildren, Daniel Shay, Michelle Shay, Taylor Lynch, Lakin Lynch; two great grandchildren, Makayla and McKenzie and a nephew, Mike Belt of Ionia, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Don Shay; a sister, Betty Belt and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Shay.
A graveside service will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2017. A visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel.
