Mrs. Leona Johanna Martin, age 101, of New Franklin, Missouri passed away at her home on August 27, 2018.

Leona was born in New Franklin on February 9, 1917 a daughter of Louis and Pauline Schoppenhorst Bueker.  She married Albert Curtis Martin on October 14, 1943.  He preceded her in death August 17, 2001.

Mrs. Martin was a long-time member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin where she was a member of the Ladies’ Guild.  Leona was the last surviving member of the “101 Pew” at the church.  In her younger years, she was employed at the Bobben Heel Factory in Boonville.  She was a member and volunteer at the former Silver Liners Senior Center in New Franklin for many years and enjoyed quilting, gardening, was an excellent cook, homemaker and most of all a loving mother.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Goodwin of Jackson, Missouri and Elaine Ryan of Moberly, Missouri and her granddaughter, Lisa Porter of Tustin, California.  She was a beloved aunt, great-aunt and great-great aunt to many.  Also surviving is her caregiver Tony Wheeler of New Franklin.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Oerly and a brother, Orville Bueker.

The family would like to express special appreciation to her caregivers with Hometown Homecare, Tony Wheeler and Cindy Cornett for their love and care of Leona enabling her to stay in her home.

Services honoring Mrs. Martin’s life will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin with Rev. Tim Fairley officiating.  Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the church on Saturday afternoon.

Interment will follow services at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Immanuel United Church of Christ.
