Alan Lee Whitacre

Alan Lee Whitacre, 78, of Columbia, Mo. fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p. m., Tuesday October 2, 2018 at the Columbia Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1100 College Park Drive, Columbia.  The family will receive friends after the service until 5:00 p. m.

Alan was born on August 14, 1940, in Ottawa, Kansas to the late William Walter and Edna Ruth (Johnson) Whitacre. On May 21, 1961, he married Barbara Ann Dykstra in Ottawa, Kansas and she survives.

Alan was a man who loved his God, family, and fishing. He would always say, "The best thing about the start of college football season was that meant college basketball was right around the corner--Rock Chalk, Jayhawks!" He became a little uneasy moving into Mizzou country, but everyone made him feel right at home.

Alan is also survived by his children, Troy Whitacre (Lori) of Hallsville, Brett Whitacre (Andrea) of Shawnee, Kansas and Rhondi Whitacre of Bonner Springs, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and beloved family members.

He was also preceded in death by two siblings, William (Bill) Whitacre and Virginia McGhee.
