William Joseph George, 93, of Columbia went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, December 7, 2017.

Bill was born September 28, 1924, to William John and Sadie Burns George. After serving his country in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II, he married the love his life, Peggy Ford on June 7, 1952 in Kirkwood, Missouri.

Bill and Peggy made their home in Columbia in 1952 where they lived until his death.  Bill owned and operated several gas stations in Columbia for over 60 years.  He was an avid fan of Mizzou sports and NASCAR races.  He loved RVing with Peggy and was an active member of Christian Chapel Church.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy of the home; his children, William Joseph George, Jr. (Maree)of Hudson, WI, Julie Ruth Alsberge (Steve) of Columbia, Jon David George (Kim) of Austin, Texas; son-in-law, Mike Willhite of Yorkville, IL; one sister, Shirley N. Dorsett of Riverside, CA; eleven grandchildren, David Willhite (Demelza), Caree Amtsberg (Mike), Stephen Willhite (Amber), Justin Willhite (Amy), William George (Jenny), Joshua George (Taylor), Zachary George, Sadie Markey (Ryan), Jake Alongi, Amanda Alsberge, Nathan George, Brayden George and eight great grandchildren, Brantley Willhite, Emilee Amtsberg, Maycee Amtsberg, Chelsee Amtsberg, Scott Willhite, Ahna George, Maddilyn George, Carson Alsberge.                     

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janice T. Willhite on September 30, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at Christian Chapel at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service.   Entombment will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
